This is a unique opportunity to join our Horticultural Team as an Assistant Horticulturist for the western display areas of the Botanic Garden. Reporting to the Team Leader (Horticultural Display) the role holder is responsible for caring for that specific area of the Garden and its plant collections.

Horticultural knowledge and practical experience are essential in this role to assist the team in ensuring that the collections are developed and maintained to a high standard. The collections and areas within this role are popular with visitors and are an important resource for research and education purposes within the Garden, University and the wider botanical and horticultural community.

In particular, the role holder will assist the Senior Horticulturist on the maintenance, care and curation of the Garden's nineteenth century (western) landscape and later additions, which include; Systematic Beds, Bee Borders, Mediterranean Beds, Brookside entrance, New Zealand Terrace Garden and Schools' Garden.

Planting of the Western landscape area of the Garden started in 1846 under the first Garden Curator, Andrew Murray in consultation with Henslow. The design represents the 'Gardenesque' style of the time, combining both specimen plants and composed landscapes with great horticultural expertise.
