Scientific Associate/ Senior Scientific Associate (Maternity Cover)

As part of the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, the Institute's research ranges from basic cancer biology through translational cancer research to clinical application. The Institute currently houses over 400 researchers and support staff with around 20 research groups and associated core facilities in a state-of-the-art research facility.

We are currently looking to recruit a Laboratory Manager (Senior) Scientific Associate (Maternity Cover) to work in the Cancer Signalling and Therapeutics Laboratory, led by Group Leader Dr Pau Creixell, at the University of Cambridge at the Cancer Research UK - Cambridge Institute (CRUK-CI). We seek a highly talented, motivated, and experienced individual for this role, which will mainly involve scientific support and lab management, but also experimental research within our lab's research programme, as described below. In addition, you will assist the group leader in laboratory administrative, housekeeping and maintenance duties. Candidates without previous experience in similar roles may apply and, if selected, may initially be appointed as Scientific Associate. Candidates with previous demonstrable history of achievement and extensive experience in a similar role may be eligible for appointment as Senior Scientific Associate.

You will also be able to assist the group leader in managing the lab and provide technical assistance and guidance to PhD students, postdocs, and other lab members. Our lab utilises a broad range of techniques, such as molecular cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, protein purification and biochemistry, transfection, western blotting, radioactivity-based protein kinase activity assays, crystallography, mammalian cell culture, drug discovery, cancer research and computational biology. Experience in any of these would be an advantage. We benefit particularly in being able to express and purify our own proteins, so expertise in this area would be welcomed.

The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.

You should have a BSc, MSc, or PhD degree level qualification in a relevant field.

The closing date is 1st October 2024, with the interview date to be confirmed.
