Nanofabrication Facility Technician - Processing Scientist

Applications are invited for a Processing Scientist to provide technical support to the MBE Growth Facility and Fabrication Cleanrooms in the Department of Physics on the University of Cambridge's West Cambridge Site.

The facility's growth systems produce high-quality semiconductor material to support a wide range of fundamental research, R&D and small-scale production. Grown wafers are subsequently processed into devices in the adjacent fabrication cleanrooms. The successful candidate will have broad and varied day-to-day responsibilities across the Nanofabrication facility: in the MBE laboratory, providing highly technical support to ensure the smooth running of the growth reactors; in the cryostat laboratory to oversee the operation of, and use the 1.5K assessment cryostat, a low-temperature characterisation system for routine assessment of grown sample; and in the fabrication cleanrooms, preparing samples for measurement.

The role will suit enthusiastic individuals with an interest in semiconductor science and engineering. Experience of mechanical systems, electronics and high-precision engineering would be beneficial. In addition, they must possess excellent communication and organisational skills, to ensure high performance in a small team.

The Department is moving to a new state-of-the-art cleanroom complex in 2024/25 within the Ray Dolby Centre. This role will be a key part of the highly motivated team that helps deliver the growth facility in the new building.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a health assessment and a security check.
