Research Associate (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a Research Associate for the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy (MCTD) within CRASSH for the EU HORIZON consortium AI4Trust: AI-based-technologies for trustworthy solutions against disinformation. The person appointed will support Cambridge's leadership role in policy and human-centred AI research to build a platform to combat mis- and disinformation.

The successful candidate will pursue high-quality research (i.e., data collection and analysis) as part of the grant-funded project AI4TRUST. The project aims to enhance responses for tackling mis and disinformation across the EU by building a new human-in-the-loop AI-based platform for scientists, journalists and policymakers. The post-holder will work primarily within one of the project's work packages to conduct literature reviews, policy research and qualitative and survey research with the goal of informing the technology development team on user requirements for the AI4Trust platform and informing end users with understandable explanations of how the system works.

Ideal applicants will demonstrate expertise in at least one of the areas of direct relevance to AI4Trust including social science of mis/disinformation, policy research, and human-centred AI.

Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant field, including but not limited to Human-Computer Interaction, Information Science, Sociology, Politics, Communication, Social Science of the Internet, or Data Science. Demonstration of the ability to plan, execute and deliver large research projects is necessary.

The Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy (MCTD) is the first node in a planned international network of academic centres established to rebalance power and restore agency in a world dominated by digital platforms.
