Technical Engineer
The University has received funding for a new National Research Facility for Propulsion and Power (NCPP), which will be housed in the new Whittle Laboratory Building in West Cambridge. We are seeking a Technical Engineer to lead the development of the new test facilities, manage their use, and market the facility to others.
Initially, the role will require you to assist with the design, tender, procurement and commissioning process for equipment which will be housed in the new research facility which includes liaising with the civil engineering contractors responsible for the design and development of the NCPP building and services to ensure the facility design is suitable for the department's future research needs. As the new building becomes operational you will support the use of the facility by industrial companies and research projects to ensure that the laboratories and workshops support the effective delivery of research activity.
You will hold a first degree or Masters in a scientific discipline in engineering, science or other relevant discipline and have specialist knowledge of research and technical work with particular experience of aerodynamic or aero-thermal test facilities. A PhD in aerothermal testing is highly desirable. You will have experience of working in a fast-paced R&D environment. As well as excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to write reports for research and consultancy projects is required, together with software skills in a specialist area.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
