Senior Accounts Assistant - Staff Bureau
The Finance Division is currently undertaking an ambitious multi-year transformation programme, introducing new systems and ways of working through to 2027 and beyond.
This has led to new opportunities for multiple Senior Accounts Assistants roles for a period of two years. These roles will be based within the Finance Division Staff Bureau and will provide cover to enable subject matter experts to be assigned to transformation projects.
The main purpose of the Staff Bureau team is to provide accounting assistance to any department or associated body of the University, assisting with short to long term needs. The postholder can be deployed to any department at short notice. Candidates are required to travel to different sites across Cambridge. These roles would suit someone looking to apply and develop their financial knowledge and skillset, with the benefit of being involved in an exciting period of change throughout the University.
The Role
The purpose of the role will be to co-ordinate Finance administration services, to contribute to the management of Departmental/Unit finances. Acting as the key contact for your allocated department, you will provide financial advice to the budget holders and Heads of Departments, alongside contributing to the review of processes and procedures and proposing improvements where appropriate. Duties of the role will also involve:
- Reconciliations
- Reporting activities and preparation
- Invoice processing and payments
- Payroll duties
- General accounts administration
Training will be provided to the successful candidate(s).
Your Skills
You will have:
Experience within a relevant accounts or administrative role
Knowledge of Finance Administration including reporting tools
Excellent level of accuracy and attention to detail
Strong skills within verbal and written communication

Location
The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows. This arrangement is subject to change and will not form a part of the contractual terms of the role.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
