Finance Administrator

The Faculty of Law is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Finance Administrator. The role will work closely with the Finance Coordinator and Deputy Faculty Manager (Finance, Research and Facilities Management) to provide a prompt, efficient and professional accounts service to the Faculty.

The Faculty of Law currently has over 100 University and College Teaching Officers. Almost every area of legal interest is represented. Within its professional services team, the Faculty has 25 administrative staff and an IT team of 6.

This is a busy and varied role. The Finance Administrator is responsible for carrying out all day to day financial functions and responding to related queries in a timely manner, to efficiently support the Faculty's strategic financial objectives.

The role will be responsible for a wide range of accounts duties including purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reporting and assisting the Finance Coordinator with month end and year end procedures and deputising in their absence. The role will be a first point of contact for finance queries and provide advice as well as providing documentation and spreadsheets to the team.

The Finance Administrator is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and plays a crucial role in the Faculty's financial strategy, by providing data, having an input on decision making, and ensuring that costs are charged to the appropriate budgets.

As the Finance Administrator provides financial support to a range of internal and external stakeholders, who may not have prior accounting knowledge, it is particularly important that the successful applicant has the ability to communicate clearly and concisely. For this reason, it would also be advantageous for applicants to have good organisational skills and experience of using financial systems.

Prior knowledge of the University Finance System (UFS) is not essential but is desirable as it will assist the successful candidate to navigate the requisite modules.

We offer the flexibility of hybrid working and would be willing to discuss this as part of the interview process. There is a preference for in-person working during the initial probation period.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.

Benefits of working at Cambridge include:

  • Competitive rates of pay with automatic service-related pay progression and annual cost of living increases;
  • Generous annual leave allowance of 36 days paid leave (pro rata including bank holidays);
  • Flexible and hybrid working opportunities;
  • Generous maternity, adoption and shared parental leave entitlement and other family friendly schemes (e.g. workplace nurseries and salary exchange schemes for childcare);
  • An auto-enrolment pension scheme , with a generous employer contribution;
  • Travel benefits and retail discounts at over 2,000 local and national stores;
  • Schemes to support with relocation / the provision of accommodation.

The closing date for applications is 13 July 2025. Interviews will be held in Cambridge in-person on Wednesday 23 July 2025.
