Research Assistant (Part Time, Fixed Term)


The Department of Paediatrics is seeking a Research Assistant to join the diabetes team, contributing to studies focused on the early detection and prevention of Type 1 Diabetes.

The successful candidate will primarily support other team members in conducting ongoing observational studies and clinical trials. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the team in producing high-quality research through a variety of tasks, including literature reviews, study design, drafting and amending ethics applications, data collection and entry, and maintaining research databases.
  • Supporting the general operation of the paediatric diabetes laboratory, including receiving, processing, and storing biological samples in accordance with the Manual of Operations (MOO) and the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for each study. This also involves managing data using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and maintaining accurate records for sample storage and shipment.
  • Contributing to the broader activities of the research team, including administrative support as required.
  • Undertaking any other duties that may fall within the general scope of the role.
  • Gradually taking on responsibility for small independent research projects under the supervision of the team.

The post holder must possess a BSc or MSc degree (or equivalent) in biological sciences and laboratory experience. The candidate must have good interpersonal skills as well as the ability to communicate their work clearly in both formal and informal settings.
